Denis Gobeil acts as a lawyer and mediator in family law at our firm.

With a remarkable career behind him, he brings his extensive experience and passion for the profession to the service of the clients of Verreau Dufresne.

Background

After graduating in law from Université Laval in 1979, Denis Gobeil was admitted to the Bar in 1980. Gobeil opened his own firm in 1980 and practised alone for a few years. He later became partners with Colette Duford, who was appointed judge of the Court of Québec, Youth Division, in 2000. Gobeil was partners for many years with Martin Lapierre under the name Les Avocats Gobeil & Lapierre. For nearly 10 years, it was the largest firm of lawyers specializing in family and youth law in Lévis. In 2025, Gobeil decided to become a collaborating lawyer with our firm, Verreau Dufresne Avocats.

Practice

For many years, Denis Gobeil has practised exclusively in family law:

  • Divorce
  • Support
  • Separation
  • Family patrimony
  • Child custody
  • Access rights
  • Co-ownership / Undivided co-ownership

Over his 40 years of practice, Gobeil has had the opportunity to argue a considerable number of cases before both the Superior Court and the Court of Appeal of Quebec.

Whether in contested or mediation files, he always has his clients’ best interests at heart, but above all those of their children.

Family mediation

An accredited mediator since 2000, he has handled several hundred mediation files.

Since 2021, Gobeil has devoted himself entirely to family mediation. A team of seasoned lawyers supports him by taking charge of contested files.

Involvement

Gobeil has been a member of several committees and associations.

Barreau du Québec committee (provincial committee)

Gobeil was a member of the Barreau du Québec’s provincial family law committee from 2010 to 2016. This committee advises the Barreau on the policy directions and bills it must consider.

Barreau de Québec committee

Gobeil has been a member of several committees of the Barreau de Québec (the Québec City section of the Bar): the Superior Court committee, the Court of Appeal committee and the liaison committee of the Superior Court in Québec City, Family Division.

Association des familialistes

Gobeil has been a member of the Association des familialistes de Québec for many years. He sat on its board of directors, serving as secretary and later as president in 2010–2011.

Gobeil also chaired the committee responsible for training programs for family law lawyers.

Community involvement

Since the beginning of his career, Gobeil has been a member of several organizations: the Carnaval de Québec, the Knights of Columbus and La Fabrique de Christ-Roi.

For more than 31 years, Gobeil volunteered with Atelier Occupationnel Rive-Sud inc., an organization serving people with intellectual disabilities on the South Shore of Québec City. He served in turn as secretary, treasurer, vice-president and finally president for several years.
